Best debt payoff apps and tools in the UK (2026)

There's no single best debt payoff app: it depends on how you like to plan. We make Zero Debt, so it's in here and marked as ours, alongside an honest look at the free and paid alternatives for people in the UK.

We make Zero Debt, one of the tools in this list. It's included and clearly marked as ours. Everything said about the other tools comes from their own websites and app store pages, and we've tried to be as fair to them as to ourselves. If one of them suits you better, use it.

There's no single best debt payoff app. The right one depends on whether you want a quick plan, a phone app, lots of strategies, or something built around UK debts like credit cards, overdrafts and 0% balance transfers. Most good debt planners are free for the basics, so it's worth trying one or two before paying for anything.

If you're struggling to keep up with payments at all, an app isn't the first step: free debt advice is. More on that at the end.

What to look for in a debt payoff app

  • Snowball and avalanche plans. The two main ways to order your debts: smallest balance first, or highest interest first. See the snowball vs avalanche worked example.

  • A debt-free date. Seeing when you'll be clear, and how extra payments move it, is what keeps most people going.

  • Payment tracking. A calculator gives you a plan once; a debt tracker keeps it up to date as you pay.

  • 0% deal end dates. If you have balance transfers, you need to know what's left when the 0% ends.

  • Cost and privacy. What's free, what's paid, and whether it needs your bank login.

Undebt.it

A long-running free debt payoff planner and tracker that works in any browser and can be installed on your phone from the browser. It offers more payoff orders than most tools, including snowball, avalanche, a hybrid, cash flow index and highest utilisation, or you can set your own.

The paid Undebt.it+ is $10 a year and adds extras like calendar syncing and bank syncing through SimpleFIN. If you want bank syncing, check your bank is supported first.

Good if: you want plenty of strategies and detail. Worth knowing: it's made in the US, so prices are in dollars.

Debt Payoff Planner

A debt payoff app for iPhone and Android with a 4.4-star rating from about 4,750 reviews on Google Play. It supports snowball, avalanche, a custom order and "snowflake" one-off payments, and lets you change the currency. Pro starts from $2 a month.

Good if: you mainly want an app on your phone. Worth knowing: it's less suited to planning on a bigger screen.

Unbury.me

A free debt snowball and avalanche calculator with no account. Add your loans and it shows a plan straight away. It's a calculator rather than a tracker, and it shows amounts in dollars.

Good if: you want a plan in two minutes. Worth knowing: it won't track payments month by month.

Your own spreadsheet

Free, private and as flexible as you like. The catch is keeping it updated and getting the interest maths right, especially for 0% deals that end part-way through.

Good if: you enjoy spreadsheets. Worth knowing: there are no reminders, and it only updates when you do.

Zero Debt (our app)

This is the tool we make, so weigh what we say about it accordingly. Zero Debt is built for UK debts: pounds, credit cards, overdrafts and loans, and it plans around the date each 0% deal ends. A free account saves unlimited debts, records payments and shows your debt-free date with snowball or avalanche. It includes a 0% deal deadline planner, credit utilisation tracking and calendar sync for Google, Apple and Outlook. Pro adds analytics, a monthly review, more payoff orders, saved scenarios, exports and reminder emails.

Good if: your debts are in the UK, especially if you have 0% deals. Worth knowing: there's no bank syncing, so you update balances yourself. Some people prefer that for privacy; others find it a chore. It also has fewer payoff orders than Undebt.it, and no native phone app.

How to choose

  • Just want a quick plan? Try Unbury.me or our free payoff calculator. No account needed for either.

  • Have 0% balance transfers? Pick a tool that tracks the end date, or you risk paying the full rate on what's left. See is a 0% balance transfer worth it?

  • Want lots of strategies? Undebt.it has the widest choice.

  • Mostly on your phone? Debt Payoff Planner, or any tool that installs from the browser.

  • Not sure which order to pay? Compare both in the debt snowball calculator and the debt avalanche calculator.

If you're struggling to keep up

A debt payoff app helps when you can afford your payments and want to clear debts faster. If you're missing payments, borrowing to cover bills or getting letters from lenders, start with free debt advice from StepChange, National Debtline or Citizens Advice. They're on our financial resources page, and you can read about the options in debt management plan vs IVA.

Details are taken from each tool's own website or app store page on 27 October 2026. Prices in dollars are as shown on those sites. Zero Debt is our own product. This guide is general information, not financial advice.
