How we use cookies and similar technologies
We use a mixture of cookies, localStorage, and sessionStorage. Under UK privacy rules, these technologies need to be explained clearly even when they are not traditional cookies.
We do not currently use analytics cookies on the public site. Advertising technology for public pages is only allowed to load after you actively accept it, and limited first-party calculator usage measurement does not rely on advertising cookies.
Strictly necessary cookies we use
These cookies are used to run the service, keep it secure, or remember choices that are closely connected to the service you asked us to provide.
- Authentication and session cookies: used to keep signed-in users authenticated and maintain a secure session while using the app.
- Security cookies: used to help protect forms and account actions against abuse or forged requests.
- Preference cookies: used to remember choices such as theme or display preferences so the site loads the way you expect.
- Consent cookies: used to remember whether you accepted or declined optional advertising cookies on public pages.
- Short-lived service protection cookies: used in limited cases to prevent repeated sensitive actions over a very short period.
Similar technologies in your browser
Some parts of the product use browser storage instead of cookies. This helps preserve drafts, settings, and interface state on the same device.
- Session storage: used for temporary calculator drafts, short-lived calculator session identifiers, and similar in-session information so your work is not lost during a refresh and we can measure basic calculator usage without storing the debt inputs themselves.
- Local storage: used for settings, interface preferences, and some workspace continuity features on the same device.
- In some cases, locally stored information may mirror data already saved in your account so the interface can recover more smoothly after refreshes.
- You can clear browser storage through your browser settings, and some calculator tools also provide reset controls.
Third-party services that may set or use storage
Cloudflare Turnstile may be loaded on forms such as signup, contact, or password-reset flows when bot protection is enabled. It is used to help distinguish real visitors from automated abuse.
Google AdSense is used on public pages. Advertising cookies are only enabled if you accept them. If you decline, we keep advertising consent denied and the site continues to work normally without optional advertising cookies.
Cookie categories
- Essential cookies: required for sign-in, security, core site functions, and saving key preferences that are part of the service.
- Advertising cookies: optional cookies that support AdSense on public pages. These are only used after you give consent.
Managing your choices
When the public-site banner is shown, you can accept or decline advertising cookies. If you decline, we record that choice and keep optional advertising cookies denied.
You can also block or clear cookies and browser storage through your browser settings. Doing that may sign you out, reset saved preferences, or clear local calculator drafts.
